Episode 133: Coldmouth Strikes Again

with Boots Raingear, Acierocolotl, Isfahan, Adam Bozarth, and Lemon.

Content for this episode was compiled by Caroline.

Edited by Isfahan.

Alright now fellas, what's cooler than being cool? These tongues! We're spending some time on IceChewing.com. As the name would imply, it's a place on the internet for persons who chew on ice to talk to other people with the same fascination, learn about the reasons that they share their passion, then ignore medical advice and go back to their ice chewing. This week, The F Plus wants to talk to you about the company refrigerators.

MUSIC USED
  1. Sean MacPherson - Untitled
  2. David Bowie & Queen - Under Pressure

i gotta say as ridiculous as these people are i work at a sonic and we do sell our ice by the bag so that one particular thing is not weird. except they were buying giant bags of ice for the purpose of eating it so never mind yes it is, it absolutely is

Remember in episode 76, Boots started a petition to stop doing bumpers? Now almost two years later, he finally reached 500 million signatures, and it's legally binding!

Quoting chases parked cars:
I bet these people were infuriated that the movie Frozen didn't include ice-chewing.

I'm sure at least one of them has written a fanfiction about that.

I miss the "bumpers" you guys used to have for each episode. [...]

I see your points, but I'm still glad we got rid of them. The front & back bumpers added a layer of logistical complication to every edit, and I think as time went on, they became less and less relevant to what we do as a podcast. When you're doing something simply because it's the way you've done it in the past, it's time to reëvaluate.

I will say that I've been giving some thought on the beginning structure, and see if there's a way to introduce our topics better without segmented audio, but that's a process of discovery.

Regardless though, bumpers aren't coming back.

We should get together and start a form all about how we love ice, but only for keeping drinks cold and quickly cooling hot food down to safe temperatures.

Wow, fuck you. Ice is for coolers, too. Next time, check your ice-in-drink privilege before you erase people like us who put drinks in ice. We're here, and we're not backing down.

Also, I am a big fan of hospital ice (similar to Sonic ice), but I just use it to keep water cold, so what do I know.

I miss the "bumpers" you guys used to have for each episode. I felt like it gave at least a humorous introduction to the topic even if it had kind of devolved into "Boots is doing a new weird thing every week". I even used the introductory front (?) bumper from the waifu episode to explain to my friends what a waifu when someone (not me) brought it up in conversation. Also the predictability gave me some comfort when what comes in between the bumpers is often jarring and bizarre.

Counterpoint: the asexual episode.

But there is actually a lot to say when you're just having SO LITTLE SEX and people are oppressing you SO MUCH.

Ice-chewing is kinda like..."I chew ice." "Oh me too." "Is anyone being a dick about you chewing ice?" "Not really. They ask why I'm chewing ice sometimes but I just tell them I like to and they leave me alone."

A friend of mine theorised that it was probably because, even if you are so massively into chewing ice that you join a community solely about chewing ice, there still isn't much to say about it, you run out of material after like a dozen posts, at maximum.

The reason all these people have such low post counts is because they can only manage three or four posts before the anemia makes them need a lie down.

I don't think you can actually chew on Ice-9, so unless some of the people there have a "being killed by an ice cube" fetish, it wouldn't be very hot. (Not to be confused with the significantly more common fetish of being killed by Ice Cube)

No, it'd be very cold! HA HA! I'M FUNNY!

Alternative hypothesis: These people have low post counts because they join when they get anemia, then once it gets bad enough that they finally have to see a doctor and they go on iron supplements, they're like "oh that was weird" and never post again.

This is the weirdest thing to me. Like I used to chew ice whenever I had leftover ice from water, but I can't imagine doing it to the point where your teeth are literally falling out.

That insane nurse in particular got to me. It took a while for me to realize that medical professionals aren't necessarily immune to unhealthy habits (I've worked with at least three nurses who regularly use UV-light tanning booths), but good lord. Your patients might be a little unnerved when your teeth start falling out.

Going into this episode with Lemon's old tweet in mind, I'm morbidly curious about how the burger joints specifically get involved.
