Hey, did you ever have a good friend, and your friend was a really good dresser, and you thought "I'm gonna steal her entire outfit and wear it myself and pretend to be her and go to social gatherings specifically for other people who do this sort of thing?" Of course not, that would be creepy. But what if it's not a friend, but a cartoon character? Still creepy? We'll find out as we read Cosplay.com. This week, we're selling our eggs.

I like how Lemon pronounced "yaoi enthusiasts" as "Yahweh enthusiasts", and then the next reading was actually about Yahweh enthusiasts.

This episode told me to not put all my eggs in one fruits basket.
I cosplayed as child Anakin, also as a bipedal Dogmatix*, for two carnivals once, when I was a kid. I swear my nose wouldn't be as crooked now, if it weren't for that plastic cable holding the dog-nose up, and digging into my face.

I am unreasonably happy to hear Hellhammer get namedropped in an F Plus episode. Though Jack's White Wizzard reference was awfully forced.

Quoting Duster:
You do not need a DBZ showdown speech.

Sure you do. Every dude and even some ladies need a moment of ultimate badassery, some triumphant moment that had the opposition take pause and reassess their "attack", no matter what the form was.

For these guys, that moment of ultimate badassery exists in the realm of fantasy. But then that's alright, so do they. It's a natural fit.

Yep. Another cosplayer. They're everywhere.

The kids who (allegedly) tell off those "uncultured" people for not knowing what the hell cosplay is are painful. Saying "There's a Japanese animation convention in town and some people like to dress up for it for fun" is not hard. You do not need a DBZ showdown speech.

It's from Botsmaster, right?

This episode I was a little nervous about, since I cosplay from time to time, but yea, it was hilarious because I DID know people like this. It's why I only ever casually cosplayed. And my god, this episode only touched the tip of the iceberg for crazy cosplay drama.

I'm pretty sure "GTO" stands for "Great Teacher Onizuka". It's an anime/manga about a lecherous slacker who decides to become a teacher so he can perv on high school girls but ends up in charge of the resident problem class at a middle school and ends up fixing his students' various personal problems with his devil-may-care slacker ethos.

That or that girl wants to be a member of an all groupie band started by Frank Zappa as a joke...

@Lemon After a quick check, Leviticus does indeed contain the section about wearing cloths of different textiles. So I hope that answers you question on the Biblical stance on cosplay, which was no doubt keeping you from sleeping. You're welcome.

The episode itself already has that covered; Isfahan quotes a verse about crossdressing for his reader introduction.

Had to recommend this to my brother and (by proxy) his girlfriend, since they are both quite the cosplay nerds, though not the kind that'd produce funny/cringey things to read. I think.
I'll let you guys know if they ever start writing a blog.

@JackChick High five for that White Wizzard reference!

So what kind of music do you play? Lemon's image of an Austran techno outfit makes sense, but I was thinking 80s hair metal.

I would guess Riot Grrrrl, but that seems to east.

I was thinking British hip-hop.

I used to have a picture of the first cosplay ever*, a guy and his girlfriend at a 1938 science fiction convention if I recall correctly. I'm sure you'd be surprised to learn that they were just as nerdy back then as now, although they were probably better at sewing.

*io9 claims there were some earlier ones, but in my opinion if the costumes weren't being played at an actual nerd convention, then it wasn't cosplay.

To be honest I was really scared that this was going to be unnecessarily mean-spirited, but you guys avoided that wonderfully. I was really clamoring for another "teenagers lying about getting in fights" episode, too.

Self-loathing for not only recognizing the song in the intro, but the specific version that was used, and for understanding Portaxx's references in the lead-in skit.

However, given my various levels of involvement with the cosplay community and a great deal of friends who cosplay, this was a hoot to listen to. "Close to home" episodes can either be really cringe-worthy or really, really hilarious (the TV Tropes episode, the Escapist forums episode, and the nanowrimo episode come to mind), and this fell decidedly into the camp of fucking hilarious.

A TKO due to bleeding isn't a tie. You would know that if you had watched a boxing match ever. You could probably learn that from a boxing anime for fucks sake.

Oh man, I was part of the anime and cosplay 'community' for about 5 years.
Getting out of that was the best thing I ever did, 99.9% of the 'community' is fucking nuts.
