Episode 107: Trash At Demonhead

It's hard for an independent game developer to break into the business. With average budgets for high profile games now exceeding $20 million, and an ever increasing number of different publishers competing over market share, how is a guy with no education and no experience going to create, publish and market his own game? The answer is simple: He's not! And that's totally fine, because the game he would have created would have just been a rehash of other games using characters he didn't own the rights to. We're looking at the Fantendo wiki - a place where people can skip game development and cut straight to game journalism. Because really, the journalism's the most sophisticated part. This week, The F Plus needs to stay radical or it will implode!

Why are all you people who're saying you'd unironically love Slaughterbus not confronting the reality that it would be developed by the C-squad programmers normally chained to Barbie and That's So Raven GBA games?

It'd be shovelware. All of this would.

That's half the reason I want to see this game made! I want it to be Big Rigs levels of terrible and it will be awesome!

....okay, which one of you is actually a game designer for a living? You described my day job in the introduction.

Anyway, an episode making fun of people who have no idea what my job is really like brought me a twisted sort of joy.

Oh, you really think so? I have reliable informants that have seen Peter Molyneux looking at the Slaughterbus entry. After he finished reading it, he leaned back and whispered "Damn."

Can't we dream? If this site has taught us anything it's that dreaming is more important than doing.

Not gonna lie, if Slaughterbus was made I would be one of the first to throw my money at it. I loved the fuck out of Blood Dragon. Except Wii U so screw that, realistic graphics of stupid radical stuff or GTFO.

I unironically want to play Slaughterbus

I think if you gave that design to Dennaton they would be able to crank out something quite playable.

Can you guys please sing songs in Mario’s ridiculous Italian accent for every episode? Lost my shit to that.

Also, I have fond fond memories of that Nintendo Cereal System commercial. Not the cereal itself, because it sucked. But the commercial is so damn catchy, it still haunts me to this day.

Also, fun fact: Calgary used to be horribly horribly smoggy and polluted, but they've cleaned up a lot in recent years, so presumably the Awedio guy will have to find a new song named after a city in his shitty nerdy iTunes library.

This one hit a little too close to home. I think I still have a shitty 90s gritty Mario hack on my old computer. On the other hand, I got all references for once, and that's gotta count for something.

This is one of my new favorite episodes, on the grounds that it's just harmlessly fun bad writing, as opposed to horrifying fetishistic bad writing or culturally harmful bad writing. I wrote this stuff when I was a kid and an earlier teenager. Heck, I still do if I'm bored and have an idea that won't go anywhere else. It's dumb and usually written badly, but it's also really fun.

Also? If Slaughterbus had multiplayer, I would honestly play the fuck out of it.

I don't think writing fan games is completely useless, I mean you are exercising the skills necessary to make your own game without needing to start from scratch. What makes this hilarious is that these people aren't even going to that much trouble. They are just writing comprehensive wiki pages about things which don't exist.
This is it folks, we've reached peak sperg.

So I finished the episode, and I do understand that it's a complete waste of time to write fan games, but I'm a complete waste too and have nothing better to do with my time other than write out stupid ideas.

On that note, Smash Bros fan movesets are a fucking goldmine for awful shit. I should know, I wrote a few awful ones.

You know, I like to write down game ideas, it's just a thing iI do to for fun, it's no big deal, and I don't treat it like it's going to be an actual thing.

But I don't put my shit onto the internet for everyone to see. Like what I masturbate to.

Now having actually listened to the episode, I can't decide which is my favorite part. I mean the guy that decided the world needs a Mario-themed karaoke entirely with Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers songs is pretty good...

But I think just as high up there is the guy that clearly tried to make a Super Mario Generations, and somehow screwed that up, despite stealing directly and blatantly from Sonic Generations in several ways.

I was actually contemplating compiling an episode about this. Well, not exactly this, I was actually going to go with the Pikmin Fanon Wiki, because I thought that was absurd, that there's a whole wiki devoted entirely to people making up fake Pikmin games.

Of all things, fake Pikmin games. Just... why? I didn't even know where to start, but I did know that I wanted to make note of the fact that at least one of those fake Pikmin games had fake removed content for the Pikmin game. That's just on a whole other level.

Fantendo opened up an ad for a porn app while I was browsing it on my ipad so be careful if you're dicking around on your iPad at work.
